U.S. President Trump posted on social media on the 15th urging the Senate to vote promptly on legislation to adopt daylight saving time (DST) year-round.
Trump said the Senate "must vote as soon as possible" and "get it done." He argued that more daylight in the later part of the day is better, including helping to fight crime, but more importantly, it would end the twice-yearly clock changes that bring only disruption and confusion.
Earlier, on the 4th, Trump urged the Senate to pass the year-round DST bill, saying the vast majority of Americans want DST made permanent.
On July 14, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act. Under the bill, the current DST would be fixed as the year-round standard without the twice-yearly switch, while allowing states to opt out. After passing the House, the bill goes to the Senate; if approved there, it would be sent to Trump to sign.
