SpaceX completed its $60 billion all-stock acquisition of Anysphere, the company behind the AI coding tool Cursor, marking the largest acquisition of a venture-backed startup in history. Cursor's annual recurring revenue grew from approximately $1 million in 2023 to over $4 billion by June 2026, making it the fastest-growing software product on record.
Founded in 2022 by four MIT-trained graduates aged 25, Cursor pioneered the vibe coding era and raised $3.3 billion from investors including Nvidia, Google, Accel, Thrive Capital, and Andreessen Horowitz. The acquisition integrates Cursor into the SpaceX and xAI ecosystem.
The deal will leverage developer interaction data for training future Grok models. Following the acquisition, Cursor's brand may be gradually phased out on new products, with its upcoming general-purpose agent potentially adopting the Grok Bot name. The transaction is expected to close by the end of August 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
