Around 4:42 a.m. on the 17th, a landslide occurred near an apartment building in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, in southeastern South Korea. The ground floor of the apartment was buried.
Police and fire rescue teams who arrived at the scene rescued two residents from the buried ground floor. Another resident was found in a state of cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
Geoje has seen heavy rainfall over the past three days exceeding 700 mm, with more than 400 mm falling from the night of the 16th to the early hours of the 17th, triggering secondary disasters.
