The AI sub-forum of the 2026 Greater Bay Area Science Forum and the 7th China (Guangdong) Artificial Intelligence Forum opened on November 2 in Nansha, Guangzhou, under the theme "AI & Science."
Speakers noted that AI is moving from an analysis tool into experiments and manufacturing. The Guangzhou National Laboratory introduced EpiETL, a global infectious-disease intelligence platform for outbreak-information extraction and public-health risk assessment. Pengcheng Laboratory, with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, demonstrated a 6G semantic-communication base-station prototype embedding a semantic knowledge base into next-generation links.
Huawei presented a smart-research solution for Guangdong, while XPeng showcased its "AI empowering the physical world" full-stack technology, exploring base models in humanoid robots and physical scenarios.
Multiple industry-academia-research agreements were signed on site: Huawei with Shouxin Molecular, DeepOrigin and Tasly on AI drug discovery; the CAS Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology with Zhaowei on dexterous robot bodies; and the Dongguan New-Generation AI Industry Technology Research Institute with Yian Technology on new materials, signaling that "AI for Science" is moving from papers to contracts.
