Apple and Alibaba have announced a partnership to integrate Alibaba's Qwen model into Apple Intelligence, giving China's iPhone users direct access to Qwen's text and image understanding and content-generation capabilities within Siri, writing tools and Visual Intelligence.
The features will open to developers in a beta from November 4 and roll out to Chinese users with iOS 27.3 in December. The deal gives Apple a fast path to close its China AI gap by borrowing Qwen's text and vision abilities, while Alibaba gains a super-entry point to hundreds of millions of iPhone users.
In a separate move, OpenAI said that from December, usage quotas for ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Business tiers will be shared with its Codex coding agent as it folds Work-agent capabilities into the main ChatGPT interface.
