On Oct. 28, Volkswagen Group China launched VEGA, an integrated technology matrix developed locally and built for continuous iteration. It spans three core areas: a vehicle platform, an electrical/electronic architecture and an advanced driver-assistance system.
Leveraging its local autonomous-driving center CARIZON, VW China introduced HyperSense 8 (HS8), its first self-developed all-scenario L2++ ADAS solution. The group plans to have L3 capability ready by 2027 and is developing an in-house system chip, C7H, supporting up to L4.
The strategic shift also repositions China as a low-cost R&D and export base: technologies such as the compact main platform CMP and China E/E architecture CEA will first land in South America later this decade.
Commentators say the move signals a reversal of the decades-old 'in China, for China' model, with Chinese-developed tech now feeding global product lines.
