China's Charging Infrastructure Exceeds 23 Million Units; County-Level Coverage Reaches 98.61%

   2026-08-09 CCTV/NEANational Energy Administration00

As of June 2026, China's total EV charging infrastructure exceeded 23.05 million units, up 43.2% YoY, with county-level coverage reaching 98.61% and over 180,000 high-power charging guns deployed nationwide.

BEIJING, July 28, 2026 - The National Energy Administration (NEA) released its H1 2026 electric vehicle charging infrastructure report, revealing that China's total charging facilities surpassed 23.057 million units (guns) by end of June, a year-on-year increase of 43.2%. Private chargers accounted for 18.048 million units (78.3%), growing 50.4% YoY, while public chargers reached 5.009 million units, up 22.3% YoY.

The NEA highlighted three key priorities for H2 2026: accelerating the scientific deployment of high-power charging facilities (over 180,000 high-power guns already built, with total rated power reaching 247 million kW and average gun power of 49.35 kW); continuing to strengthen county and township charging networks (county-level coverage already at 98.61%); and developing charging infrastructure for heavy-duty electric trucks.

This infrastructure expansion is critical as China's NEV fleet approaches 49 million units. The mandatory CCC certification for charging equipment, effective August 1, 2026, will further ensure quality and safety standards. The rapid growth of private charging (contributing over 90% of new additions) reflects the increasing normalization of home EV charging for Chinese consumers.
