The 2026 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, themed "Open Source, Openness, Co-Build and Share," closed its sessions with artificial intelligence as the clear focus. Economic Daily noted on November 6 that open source and openness have become a key path for AI evolution and China's choice for technological initiative, innovation ecosystems and global governance.
AI is moving from "talking well" to "working well." At this year's summit, humanoid robots no longer only danced but acted as robot store managers handling ordering, grabbing and delivery, while smart-pharmacy robots sorted medicines and inspection robot dogs patrolled factories, signaling AI breaking the barrier between digital and physical worlds.
The paper argued that open source lowers innovation thresholds, lets small firms reuse frameworks and models, pools global wisdom to speed iteration, and strengthens the autonomous, controllable base of the industry chain, rather than locking developers out of the "kitchen."
