A September 14 Tencent News report described how Yiwu is transforming from executing standards to setting them. Relying on the Yiwu Institute of Standardization, the city has built small-commodity standard systems across 23 fields—jewelry and accessories, outdoor products, picture frames and more—moving from fragmented to systematic standardization.
A milestone came as MIIT included Zhejiang Yingdai Stationery's revision of the "Ballpoint Pen Nib and Ink Matching Test Specification" in its 2026 fourth batch of industry-standard projects. The Yiwu pen-nib maker, producing stainless-steel tips since 2002, added writing-lubricity requirements and plans to bring emulsion inks popular in export markets into the standard.
At the international level, Zhejiang Sanxitang's led ISO standard "Traditional Chinese Medicine — Huangjing (Polygonatum)" has entered the FDIS (final draft international standard) stage, becoming the first ISO standard proposed and led by a Yiwu enterprise. With a common "language" for quality and safety, Huangjing international trade gains a basis for dispute resolution and market recognition.
