In a recent interview reported September 15, BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said that with the spread of BYD's flash-charging technology, "fuel cars have no future in China—that is very clear." She added that electrification elsewhere may take a few years, but the outcome is the same.
Li revealed that BYD plans to launch a model equipped with solid-state batteries in 2027, as the company continues to advance solid-state R&D and push the technology into production through vehicle applications. Deutsche Bank and Citi, after meeting BYD management, projected BYD's overseas shipments will exceed 2.5 million units in 2027, up from a 2026 guidance of 1.9–2.0 million.
BYD also plans to build 90,000 flash-charging piles by 2028 and targets a 25% domestic passenger-car share—it already reached 18% in July versus 8% at the start of the year. Its Hungarian plant is scheduled to start production in November–December, with local production bypassing the EU's roughly 27% pure-EV tariff and Brazil's 34% import tariff.
