On September 15, 2026, a People's Daily Online report examined why Chinese new energy vehicles (NEVs) keep gaining fans worldwide. The story is a vivid illustration of the global reach of China's complete NEV industry chain and its fast-improving technology.
Latest data show that in August, China exported 526,000 NEVs, up 1.3 times year on year. For three consecutive months, NEVs accounted for more than 50% of total vehicle exports—meaning one in every two cars exported is now an NEV. "This structural shift shows China's auto exports are switching to an NEV-led model, opening global markets through electrification," said Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
In South America, BYD's Brazil plant rolled off its 100,000th NEV in July. In Southeast Asia, buyers line up for popular Chinese EV models, while in Europe Chinese-brand EVs are increasingly entering ordinary households from London streets to the Spanish coast.
Innovation is the soul of the industry: Huawei launched the world's first dual-optical-path image-grade 896-line lidar; BYD pioneered mass-produced megawatt-class ultra-fast charging; SAIC's IM Motors debuted an all-by-wire digital chassis. China's NEV patent publications have grown at an average annual rate of 17.1% over the past decade.
The upgrade from "vehicle export" to "ecosystem export" stands out. Charging-infrastructure firms are going global alongside vehicle makers—Great Wall delivered nearly 10,000 onboard chargers to Brazil in March, and BYD plans 1,000 flash-charging stations in Brazil by end-2027. Coordinated overseas expansion is becoming a key advantage for Chinese NEVs.
