On September 10, 2026, WeRide announced it had received Spain's first L4 autonomous passenger vehicle operating license from the Spanish traffic authority under the ES-AV framework, in partnership with Uber and Moove Cars' AVOMO.
The company plans to launch public Robotaxi commercial operations in Madrid within 2026. WeRide now holds autonomous driving licenses in nine countries including China, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Singapore, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the United States.
The achievement marks a significant step for Chinese autonomous driving companies in the European market, moving from test licenses to commercial operations.
WeRide said the Madrid deployment will leverage its full-stack autonomous driving technology and operational experience accumulated across multiple cities worldwide.
