According to customs statistics released on September 8, 2026, China's total goods trade in the first eight months of 2026 reached 34.78 trillion RMB, up 17.6% year on year. Exports reached 20.17 trillion RMB, up 14.6%, while imports reached 14.61 trillion RMB, up 22%.
ASEAN remained China's largest trading partner with 5.95 trillion RMB, up 20.6%, followed by the EU with 4.2 trillion RMB, up 8.1%. Trade with Belt and Road countries totaled 17.74 trillion RMB, up 15.9%.
Private enterprises accounted for 56.9% of total trade. Foreign-invested enterprises grew 18.1%, the fastest among all enterprise types. High-tech product imports including semiconductor equipment and aviation engine parts grew by more than 35%.
The data shows China's foreign trade maintaining strong momentum, with import growth outpacing export growth for six consecutive months.
