CAAM data released on September 10, 2026 showed China exported 526,000 new energy vehicles in August, up 130% year on year. NEVs accounted for more than 50% of total vehicle exports for the third consecutive month.
BYD, Geely and Chery together accounted for approximately 62% of total NEV exports with 328,500 units. BYD's overseas sales in the first eight months of 2026 already exceeded its full-year 2025 figure.
Among pure electric exports, compact A00 and A0-class vehicles accounted for 56.5%, highlighting strong global demand for affordable Chinese electric vehicles.
The export surge reflects Chinese automakers' competitive advantages in cost, technology and supply chain integration, which are increasingly difficult for international competitors to match.
