On September 8, 2026, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally attended a ceremony to deliver 50 Chinese new energy vehicles to the Islamabad police. Sharif handed over the vehicle keys to the Interior Minister and the Islamabad Police Director.
This marks the latest batch delivery since the Islamabad police began procuring BYD electric vehicles in April 2026. The Islamabad police have ordered nearly 100 electric vehicles from BYD, with 58 already delivered, primarily the Sea Lion 07 and ATTO 2 models.
Pakistani officials stated that switching to electric vehicles will help save approximately 34 million Pakistani rupees (about 823,000 RMB) per month in fuel costs. Based on this calculation, the purchase cost of each vehicle can be recovered through fuel savings in about 10.5 months.
BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang said the company has been exporting electric vehicles to Pakistan since March 2025, with cumulative sales reaching nearly 10,000 units across various models.
