CPCA data released on September 8, 2026 showed that Chinese NEV manufacturers exported 518,000 units in August 2026, a year-on-year increase of 154.7%, accounting for 58.4% of total passenger vehicle exports.
BYD, Geely, and Chery ranked as the top three exporters. Among pure electric exports, A00 and A0-class vehicles accounted for 56.5%, highlighting the strong global demand for affordable compact electric vehicles.
The export surge comes as Chinese automakers accelerate overseas expansion through both direct exports and local manufacturing. In the first eight months of 2026, Chery, BYD, and SAIC each surpassed one million units in overseas sales.
Industry observers noted that the export growth reflects Chinese automakers' competitive advantages in cost, technology, and supply chain integration, which are increasingly difficult for international competitors to match.
