The Yiwu Global Digital Trade Center's foreign-trade transformation project has been selected among China's first batch of national landmark major application scenarios, Zhejiang's development and reform commission announced on October 20. Implemented by Zhejiang China Commodities City Group together with the three major telecom operators and Alibaba Cloud, the project is built around the "World Yiwu" commerce large language model, which tackles the classic pain points of small merchants going global: language barriers, product-sourcing difficulty, costly cross-border logistics and payment risk.
The results are measurable. From January to September, the commerce LLM covered nearly 60 percent of market merchants with 30 AI applications live; logistics operator Zhijie Yuangang handled 143,000 TEU of shipments; and Yiwu's own cross-border payment arm, YiwuPay, processed more than 7.51 billion US dollars in cross-border transactions over the period, forming a replicable model for digital-trade transformation.
Zhejiang says it will link the selected scenarios to its "Thousand Projects, Trillion Investment" program with extra policy and factor support. The announcement comes days before Commodities City Group (600415) releases its third-quarter report on October 22 and holds an online results briefing on October 27.
