China Telecom's Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (TeleAI) has incubated its first market-oriented innovation company, Gamma Robtics (Gamma Intelligent), registered in Shanghai's Xuhui district and settled in the "Model Speed Space," National Business Daily reported on October 22. The firm focuses on self-evolving humanoid-robot full-model innovation and applications.
Gamma Robtics will build a humanoid-robot lab with TeleAI and jointly turn research results into products and services for real industrial scenarios. The move signals a state-owned carrier extending from compute and networks toward "AI + robotics" physical scenarios, potentially giving humanoid robots a real testbed and data loop.
The spin-off reflects a broader wave of embodied-AI commercialization in China: hundreds of humanoid models are emerging, with output and deployment accelerating across more than 300 scenarios. TeleAI's entry adds a well-funded, infrastructure-backed player to the field.
Analysts say carrier-led embodied-intelligence entities can leverage 5G, edge computing and industry customers to shorten the path from lab prototype to shop-floor deployment.
