China's new growth drivers are accelerating and their leading role is strengthening, CCTV's "Xinwen Lianbo" reported on October 21, citing the National Development and Reform Commission. In the first three quarters, innovation outcomes surged: breakthroughs in key integrated-circuit core technologies; cumulative global downloads of China's open-source AI models surpassed 10 billion; and humanoid-robot shipments exceeded 90% of the global share.
Other highlights included 130 billion U.S. dollars of outbound technology licensing for innovative drugs in the first three quarters, near last year's full total, and NEV penetration reaching 53.6%. The industrial structure kept optimizing, with high-tech manufacturing and equipment manufacturing growing fast and the data-industry scale exceeding 6 trillion yuan.
The figures paint a picture of an economy where innovation is converting into real output: open-source AI models gaining global adoption, robotics dominance, and semiconductor self-reliance progressing together with green transport leadership.
Officials said the momentum reflects a strategy of anchoring on strategic needs and letting AI empower thousands of sectors, from factories and farms to healthcare and culture.
