Xiaomi's extended-range Pengcheng series has taken more than 70,000 locked orders in the 30 days since the N70 and N90 went on sale, and delivered roughly 15,000 units in its first month, according to September insurance-registration data and brokerage estimates published October 20. Analysts expect quarterly deliveries to exceed 50,000 units in the fourth quarter as production ramps.
The EREV line is doing exactly what Xiaomi designed it to do: reaching buyers its electric models did not. Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibin said the overlap in buyer profiles between Pengcheng and the SU7 and YU7 electric models is only around 10-15 percent, and the average Pengcheng customer is several years older. Store visits reported by Chinese auto media showed middle-aged male buyers and families with children dominating the foot traffic, a marked change from the SU7 and YU7 crowds.
Pengcheng contributed close to 30 percent of Xiaomi's September insurance registrations, helping the company's monthly deliveries climb about 33 percent from August to more than 40,000 units. As of October 20, the official website listed 4-7 week delivery waits for most Pengcheng variants and 9-12 weeks for the N90 Max Explorer edition.
