Alibaba Cloud has officially launched Qwen3.8-Max, the largest model in its Qwen large language and multimodal model family. Featuring 2.4 trillion parameters and a context window of up to 1 million tokens, the model represents a significant leap in AI capability and cements Alibaba's position among the world's leading AI developers.
The million-token context window — equivalent to processing roughly 750,000 words or the entire 'Three-Body Problem' trilogy in a single input — enables entirely new use cases in document analysis, long-form content generation, and complex reasoning over extensive datasets. This capability puts Qwen3.8-Max in an elite category of models globally.
Alibaba has made the model available through its cloud platform, with pricing designed to be competitive with — and in many cases cheaper than — comparable Western offerings. The company is also releasing open-weight versions of smaller Qwen variants to support the global developer community.
Early benchmarks show Qwen3.8-Max performing at or near the top across multiple evaluation categories, including reasoning, coding, mathematics, and multilingual understanding. The model's strong performance in Chinese language tasks is particularly notable, though its English capabilities are also highly competitive.
The launch is part of Alibaba's broader strategy to position its cloud division as a leading AI platform provider, offering everything from foundation models to application development tools and deployment infrastructure.
