On August 24, 2026, XPeng Group announced that its humanoid robotics business unit has signed equity financing agreements with multiple investors. This inaugural external funding round raised over 900 million USD at a post-money valuation exceeding 6.3 billion USD, setting a new record for single-round private equity financing in China's embodied artificial intelligence industry.

The round was led by IDG Capital, with participation from Gaolan Ventures and strategic investors Tencent and Alibaba, while XPeng Group retains controlling ownership of the robotics business. The capital will accelerate the IRON humanoid robot's mass production and XPeng's Physical AI model R&D iteration, driving high-level general-purpose humanoid robot commercial application.

XPeng's IRON humanoid robot, unveiled earlier this year, represents the company's strategic expansion from smart EVs into embodied AI. The IRON robot integrates XPeng's proprietary autonomous driving technology — including sensor fusion, real-time decision-making, and motion planning — into a humanoid form factor. The robot has been deployed in XPeng's own factories for pilot applications including parts handling and assembly assistance.

He Xiaopeng, XPeng's CEO, has positioned robotics as a natural extension of the company's core competencies in AI and precision manufacturing. "Automotive-grade reliability, AI-driven perception, and precision motion control are exactly what humanoid robots need," he noted at the announcement. "Our investments in EVs are directly applicable to robotics, and vice versa." The strong investor interest — including backing from both Tencent and Alibaba simultaneously — signals broad confidence in XPeng's cross-domain AI strategy.
