At the Wuzhen Summit auto night forum on November 5-6, NIO founder Li Bin and Geely chairman Li Shufu shared the stage for the first time since their September charging-swap alliance. Li Bin again raised the issue of vehicle weight, noting that some cars pack 120 kWh batteries weighing 700-800 kg. Citing the "fourth-power rule," he said a 20% weight increase multiplies road damage by about 2.07 times.
Li Bin also warned that the "vehicle and battery not sharing the same lifespan" problem cannot be ignored. Current battery warranties typically use eight years, 160,000 km and 70% health as reference, but cars often last far longer. He urged the industry and regulators to consider full-lifecycle battery aging, maintenance and replacement costs rather than only the first few years of experience.
