The SAE 2026 Ninth International Conference on Vehicle Intelligence and Connected Technology (ICVS) was held from October 30 to November 1 in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, Science and Technology Daily and ScienceNet reported on November 4. Experts, engineers and graduate students from universities, research institutes and automakers gathered to discuss the latest progress in automotive intelligence and connectivity.
In the keynote session, Shang Jin, chief scientist of Dongfeng Motor's research and development institute, proposed defining the car with AI and rebuilding the vehicle-development paradigm with a new ecosystem. Professors from Tongji University and the CTO of Valeo China shared engineering practice on drive-by-wire chassis, smart cockpit and enhanced perception, while a State Grid subsidiary explored the synergy between electric vehicles and new energy.
A roundtable on "the present and future of vehicle-road-cloud" discussed technology routes, scaled deployment, safety testing and business models. The conference ran three parallel tracks covering environment perception, smart cockpit, end-to-end autonomous-driving large models, intelligent chassis, intelligent decision-making and connected-vehicle evaluation, with 36 paper presentations and five selected as outstanding.
