Data from the China Passenger Car Market Information Joint Branch shows September NEV retail penetration climbed to 67%, a fresh historical high, while the October 1-25 reading held at 65.7%, according to a November 2 industry morning report. September NEV retail reached 1.084 million units, down 16.7% year on year, yet penetration rose against the trend — evidence that electrification has moved from policy-driven to product-driven.
The 2026 Guangzhou International Auto Show has been scheduled for November 27 to December 6 at the Canton Fair Complex, with an exhibition area of 240,000 square meters and more than 3,500 exhibitors expected; NEV models will again account for more than half of displays, showcasing high-level smart driving, solid-state batteries, 800V fast charging and intelligent cockpits as the year-end technology benchmark.
Overseas, ACEA data shows Europe's October new-car registrations rose 4.9% to 1.09 million, the fourth straight monthly gain, led by demand for affordable pure EVs; BEV registrations jumped nearly 33% and PHEV 40%. BYD's sales more than tripled, comfortably overtaking Tesla, whose volume fell 48% year on year.
