Data published in the September 19 front page of Yiwu Daily shows the city's total imports-exports reached 636.4 billion yuan in the first eight months, up 14.8% year on year. Exports hit 548.85 billion yuan, up 12.8% and a historic high, crossing the 500-billion-yuan mark a full month earlier than last year; imports reached 87.55 billion yuan, up 29.4%.
Africa remained Yiwu's largest trading market at 132.41 billion yuan (up 36.7%); ASEAN was the fastest-growing major market at 98.52 billion yuan (up 55.7%), with Indonesia alone at 11.38 billion (up 26.9%). Market-procurement trade—Yiwu's core export model—reached 443.36 billion yuan (up 10.1%). Furniture, auto parts and beauty-cosmetics exports grew fastest at 51.0%, 54.4% and 31.0% respectively.
A new signal stands out: electric-vehicle exports reached 4.71 billion yuan, up 42.5%, making electro-mobility a fast-rising category alongside mechanical-electrical products. With imports growing far faster than exports, Yiwu is not only shipping out Chinese goods but also expanding global sourcing—its "buy global, sell global" two-way trade character is becoming more pronounced.
Officials attributed the momentum to the international trade comprehensive-reform dividend and the China-Europe freight-train hub, with multiple "first" shipments landing in Yiwu.
