On September 17, Yiwu Customs reported the city's foreign trade reaching a record pace: in the first eight months, total imports-exports hit 636.4 billion yuan, up 14.8% year on year. Exports reached 548.85 billion yuan, up 12.8% and a historic high, crossing the 500-billion-yuan mark a full month earlier than last year; imports hit 87.55 billion yuan, up 29.4%.
Africa remained Yiwu's largest trading market at 132.41 billion yuan (up 36.7%); ASEAN was the fastest-growing major market at 98.52 billion yuan (up 55.7%), with Indonesia alone at 11.38 billion (up 26.9%). Market-procurement trade—Yiwu's core export model—reached 443.36 billion yuan (up 10.1%). Furniture, auto parts and beauty-cosmetics exports grew fastest at 51.0%, 54.4% and 31.0% respectively.
Cross-border e-commerce bonded imports cleared 84.697 million parcels (up 29.5%), crossing 80 million a month earlier than last year and ranking first among Chinese cities. Officials attributed the momentum to deepening reform of market-procurement trade and the China-Europe freight-train hub, with multiple "first" shipments landing in Yiwu.
