On September 17, People's Daily reported that China's National Medical Products Administration approved YY/T 2029—2026, the world's first recommended industry standard for AI-algorithm EEG datasets used in brain-computer interface (BCI) medical devices, effective September 1, 2027.
The standard systematizes quality requirements for EEG data collection, processing, labeling, storage and access across the full lifecycle, drafted with participation from Tianjin University's BCI Haihe Laboratory. It is China's third BCI medical-device standard and the first globally aimed specifically at AI algorithms, providing hard benchmarks for R&D and registration review.
Experts said the standard particularly benefits the non-invasive BCI track, unblocking the path from innovation to commercialization and marking the frontier field's acceleration toward regulated development.
