On September 1, 2026, the State Administration for Market Regulation approved and released the "Technical Conditions for Motor Vehicle Operation Safety" (GB 7258-2026), a mandatory national standard that will take effect on July 1, 2027. The new standard addresses key safety gaps in electric and intelligent vehicles by specifying requirements for single-pedal mode operation, unintended acceleration suppression, and combined driving assistance system testing. The standard fills regulatory gaps created by the rapid electrification and intelligent transformation of China's automotive industry, ensuring that safety regulations keep pace with technological advancement in the new energy vehicle sector.
