On August 22, a blogger known as 'Yu Lie Qi Ge' posted a video exposing that some Chinese cabbages in Kangbao County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei, were dipped in formaldehyde solution for preservation before loading. The video triggered public concern over food safety.

According to the blogger, vehicles transporting the formaldehyde-treated cabbage were intercepted, and tests confirmed the cabbage did contain formaldehyde. One truckload was sealed, and Fuyang will test all cabbage on the market. That afternoon, Kangbao County issued a notice confirming the video's claims were true, took coercive measures against the people and vehicles involved, and urgently traced the flow of the tainted cabbage.

On the 23rd, the blogger updated the aftermath of the 'formaldehyde cabbage' incident, saying people are unlikely to eat the chemically dipped cabbage again. Because production areas now keep samples first for later testing and traceability, it is hard for dipped cabbage to leave the production area. Various localities have also stepped up targeted testing of Chinese cabbage to ensure food safety.
