At the 2026 World Power Battery Conference, Wang Fang, chief scientist of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), said three standards covering solid-state battery performance, safety and service life have been initiated and a draft for comment is expected by the end of the year.
Wang also clarified a market rumor, stating that CATARC has not judged the more than 320 enterprises laying out solid-state batteries and that the claim that 'only nine fully passed all compliance items' was false - pushing back against speculation that had unsettled the sector.
The standards work signals that as solid-state batteries move from lab to line, regulation is racing to keep pace, providing a clear compliance framework for a technology still in the engineering-validation stage.
