WeRide, the autonomous-driving technology company, launched a global insurance partnership program on October 27, with Allianz Insurance Singapore and Ping An Property & Casualty as the first partners, according to an industry report.
The program covers WeRide's existing operations in China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East and supports upcoming service launches in Europe, with customized insurance spanning the full lifecycle of L4 autonomous-vehicle operations - including motor-liability, commercial general-liability and product-liability coverage, plus privacy and cyber-risk protection.
Allianz, Singapore's third-largest auto insurer and the first to underwrite fully driverless vehicles there, will extend coverage to WeRide's Robotaxi service with Grab in Punggol; Ping An will develop Robotaxi insurance compliant with Chinese and Middle Eastern markets, backing fully driverless commercial operations in Beijing, Guangzhou, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
WeRide said its autonomous-driving business now spans 13 countries and more than 60 cities, with about 3,600 L4 vehicles, of which over 1,800 are Robotaxis - making insurance a prerequisite for scaled, regulated deployment.
