China's power battery installations reached 87.2 GWh in September, up 14.7 percent year on year, industry data cited in an October 21 research note showed. The average capacity per vehicle rose to 69.9 kWh, up 27.1 percent from a year earlier, reflecting the shift toward longer-range electric models and larger-frame NEVs.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries accounted for 74.5 GWh of September installations, up 19.9 percent, cementing their dominance in the domestic market. Power battery exports also grew 60.9 percent year on year, a sign that the battery supply chain's own globalization is now delivering in earnest.
Analysts said the combination of higher per-vehicle capacity, rising LFP share and booming battery exports points to continued technological iteration and strengthens the position of leading cell makers and vehicle manufacturers, even as domestic retail demand fluctuates.
