At the 140th Canton Fair in Guangzhou, the new energy vehicle and smart mobility zone has become one of the busiest areas of the trade event, with overseas buyers lining up to test vehicles and negotiate with Chinese automakers on the spot.
A Spanish buyer told China News Service that his priority is to sign an agency deal before competitors do, saying Europe must face the fact that Chinese NEVs lead the world. His plan starts with distribution, then moves to technology transfer and localized production in cooperation with Chinese carmakers.
Another Spanish buyer said he initially worried that Chinese brands would squeeze local manufacturers, but has shifted to looking for differentiated cooperation. He plans to partner with Chinese companies on charging infrastructure, aiming to build a business in the charging pile segment.
New energy heavy trucks also drew attention at the fair. A Hong Kong buyer with nearly five decades of Canton Fair experience said he used to source screws and building materials, and is now looking at electric heavy trucks for export to Britain, Canada and other markets, citing their green credentials and much lower energy costs than diesel.
Industry data cited at the fair showed that NEV exports accounted for more than half of China's total vehicle exports for four consecutive months, underscoring how electrified Chinese models have become the main engine of the country's auto export growth.
