Summer vacation is now underway, and museums are a great place to visit during the break. Follow our reporter's camera to visit several distinctive museums.
This summer, an immersive exhibition created by a Chinese-French team debuted in Paris amid light and shadow. Focusing on Beijing from the 15th to the early 20th century, the exhibition unfolds the beauty and historical context of the Forbidden City before French audiences through a visiting route that blends immersive projection, interactive installations and cultural experiences.
CCTV reporter Zhu Xuesong: This is the 'Cité de l'Histoire' (City of History), a history exhibition hall on the western outskirts of Paris. In the past, it told the history of France. But this summer, what walks in is the Forbidden City, more than 600 years old. Without a single artifact crossing the oceans, the organizers use imagery to tell French audiences the historical story of this Chinese palace.
CCTV reporter Zhu Xuesong: The visit begins with Beijing's central axis. For a Western city like Paris, cities were mostly built along terrain and rivers, with streets radiating outward and no single dominating line across the city. But more than seven centuries ago, Beijing first established a central axis, and the city was built symmetrically around it, with the Forbidden City seated at the center. This order of 'first the line, then the city' is a first for many French visitors, and is also, in their eyes, one of the greatest charms of the Forbidden City.
CCTV reporter Zhu Xuesong: The entire exhibition is mainly digital and visual, but also retains real objects. In my hand is the dougong of traditional Chinese architecture — layers of wooden components interlocking tightly like building blocks, holding up the roof steadily without a single nail. The palaces of the Forbidden City are supported by thousands upon thousands of such dougong. The organizers deliberately used it as a real object, so that visitors can feel up close the authentic texture of ancient Chinese architecture.
