Yantai Port in Shandong Province handled 79,000 new energy vehicles in the first seven months of 2026, surging 95.5 percent year on year, according to China News Service.
The port recently completed its first combined container and roll-on/roll-off shipment of domestically produced new energy vehicles to the Middle East, involving more than 1,000 vehicles. The new operation mode improved per-voyage handling efficiency by over 50 percent.
The milestone highlights how Chinese ports are adapting to booming NEV exports by developing multimodal shipping solutions. It also reflects the strong overseas demand for Chinese-made electric vehicles.
Shandong's first combined container-and-ro-ro export is expected to become a model for other ports seeking to handle rising volumes of new energy vehicle exports more efficiently.
