BEIJING, Aug. 12 - China now hosts more than 6,600 artificial intelligence enterprises, representing 15% of the global total, covering a complete industrial system that spans foundational infrastructure, model frameworks and industry applications, according to China News Service.
The data underscores the rapid expansion of China's AI industry, which has evolved from isolated breakthroughs into a systematic, cluster-based development pattern.
On July 30, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee emphasized, while deploying economic work for the second half of the year, the need to 'deeply implement the AI Plus action, develop new forms of intelligent economy, and improve the AI governance system.'
The clear deployment reflects the weight and urgency attached to the sector. In 2025, the State Council issued the Opinions on Deeply Implementing the 'AI Plus' Action, drawing a clear national roadmap for the first time, and this year's Government Work Report proposed 'creating new forms of intelligent economy' for the first time.
From reshaping industrial backbone to building a solid foundation for an intelligent economy, China's AI industry is moving from 'comprehensive' deployment to 'in-depth' integration, empowering thousands of industries and becoming a strong increment for high-quality economic development.
Industry watchers expect that with the continued rollout of the 'AI Plus' action and improving governance, China's AI enterprises will further strengthen their role across the global value chain.
