German automotive supplier ZF announced that its 8-speed hybrid transmission has officially begun mass production in Shanghai, marking a key breakthrough in new energy transition and hybrid technology localization in China.
The localization project moved from approval to product rollout in just 18 months, with the time from project launch to production line completion taking only 13 months, significantly compressing the delivery cycle for new hybrid products.
In terms of supply chain localization, the product achieved an overall material localization rate of 79 percent at the production stage, with the controllable material localization rate reaching 95 percent. This high level of local sourcing helps reduce manufacturing costs and improve delivery responsiveness.
The production of ZF's 8-speed hybrid transmission in China will better serve domestic autonomous brands and joint-venture automakers' hybrid vehicle needs. As the hybrid market continues to heat up, foreign component suppliers are intensifying their localization efforts in China's hybrid sector.
