At a third-quarter economic briefing, the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission said the capital's new-energy vehicle ownership has surpassed 1.53 million and that the city will orderly advance the "oil-to-electric" transition for automobiles, Yiche reported on October 28.
Beijing has sustained its trade-in subsidy policy, guiding consumption toward first-tier energy- and water-efficiency products and promoting vehicle electrification, with the program cumulatively driving over 140 billion yuan in trade-in sales. The city is also accelerating the build-out of charging and battery-swapping infrastructure to support the growing NEV fleet.
The milestone reflects a national trend: the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said China's NEV sales reached 12.472 million units in the first three quarters, up over 10%, with September NEV sales of 1.823 million, up 13.6%, and the monthly NEV share of new-car sales hitting a record 61.6%.
As megacities like Beijing cross the 1.5-million-NEV threshold, the policy focus is shifting from purchase incentives toward infrastructure, grid integration and orderly fleet transition.
