Volkswagen China announced on Oct. 20 that the ID.ERA5X, the first production model built on its fully locally developed China-specific new-energy vehicle platform CMP (Compact Main Platform), rolled off the line at the SAIC Volkswagen plant on Oct. 16.
The highly flexible CMP supports both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. A second CMP-based model, the ID.AURAL5, is scheduled to launch later this year, underscoring the German automaker's deepened local R&D and manufacturing in China.
