Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. (CATL) on Oct. 20 rolled out its Tiangong II heavy-truck ecosystem solution — the 'electric-electric range extender' (ERev) version — based on a battery-swap system that splits the underbody swap module into two independent, complementary battery systems, breaking the boundaries of a single system.
The solution is mass-produced from launch, with 13,000 units signed in the first batch. CATL also unveiled its Qiji battery-swap ecosystem and new leasing models, and plans to build 900 heavy-truck swap stations by end-2026 and 2,000 by 2027, with a long-term goal of 10,000, positioning electric heavy trucks as mainstream in China's trunk-line logistics.
