The world's first AI agent phone obtained network access approval in early September 2026 and is scheduled for release this month, equipped with the Doubao phone assistant - popularly called the "Doubao phone."
Unlike conventional smartphones that make users adapt to the device, an AI agent phone turns the handset itself into an intelligent assistant that proactively understands human needs and helps get tasks done. Industry observers note that a good agent product must be both capable and know "when to stop and let the user confirm."
The approval marks a step from generic generative AI chat toward on-device agents that can execute routines, reflecting China's fast-moving consumer-AI hardware race as models, chips and form factors converge in new devices.
