The China Passenger Car Market Information Joint Conference (CPCA) estimated on September 2, 2026 that national new energy passenger vehicle wholesale sales reached about 1.51 million units in August, up 16% year on year and 4% month on month, marking a strong recovery after an earlier adjustment.
BYD led wholesale volume with 433,384 units, followed by Geely at 173,675 and Chery at 115,558. Analysts noted that NEV wholesale growth far outpaced the broader passenger-vehicle market, confirming the segment as the core engine stabilizing China's auto sector.
In a separate update, CPCA's Cui Dongshu said world新能源汽车 sales reached 13.52 million units in the first seven months of 2026, lifting the global NEV share to 24.1%, with battery electric at 16.8%, plug-in hybrid at 7.3% and conventional hybrid at 8.1% - the last becoming a notable growth bright spot.
