Recently, homes in Luozhuang Community, Changcunzhang Subdistrict, Xuchang Economic and Technological Development Zone, have been without water for more than a month. In the summer heat, the water outage has seriously affected residents' normal lives.
On August 21, a reporter visited Luozhuang Community. Resident Mr. Li, 68, said he has to ride a tricycle to the community cultural courtyard gate every day to fetch water, which is very inconvenient. On site, the centralized water supply point has five faucets and requires a card to draw water. An elderly Mrs. Li told the reporter she can only place the bucket on the tricycle because it is too heavy to lift, and after getting home must wait for her child to finish work to unload it.
Residents said most of their homes are self-built, and some have private wells, but the well water is not drinkable. So everyone either queues at the supply point, buys bottled water, or uses a direct-drinking machine. At Mr. Luo's home, the reporter saw a bucket of water he had just stored from the direct-drinking machine, which he is reluctant to use for anything but cooking.
Mr. Yang said many young people in the village have gone out to work, leaving mostly the elderly at home. They hope tap water will be restored soon so normal life can resume.
