BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) - The People's Bank of China (PBOC) announced on Aug. 17 that eight institutions-Ping An Bank, Evergrowing Bank, China Bohai Bank, Bank of Shanghai, Bank of Hangzhou, Huishang Bank, Changsha Bank, and Guangxi Beibu Gulf Bank-have been added as banking-type digital RMB operating institutions and connected to the PBOC's digital RMB system. The newly added institutions will launch digital RMB services after completing business and technical preparations.
The move aims to further enhance the inclusiveness of digital RMB services and continuously meet the public's demand for safe, convenient, and efficient digital RMB services. After this expansion, the number of digital RMB operating institutions has increased to 30.
The PBOC stated that next, it will orderly advance the expansion of operating institutions in accordance with market-oriented and law-based principles, and foster an open, inclusive, and fairly competitive environment for the development of the digital RMB.
