On September 2, 2026, China FAW announced a major technological breakthrough in the low-pressure operation of sulfide solid-state batteries, achieved together with Eastern Institute of Technology.
The results, titled "Iono-Elastomer Interface Enables Low-Pressure, Highly Stable Solid-State Batteries," were published in the top international journal Advanced Energy Materials. The work is described as a milestone in practical core technology for sulfide solid-state batteries, solving a key engineering pain point of low-pressure operation and taking a critical step toward industrialization.
Analysts noted that while the achievement is an important research advance, moving from a lab result to actual vehicle installation still requires multiple rounds of engineering validation, a reminder that solid-state commercialization remains a marathon rather than a sprint.
