The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released data on August 11 showing that July 2026 new energy passenger vehicle retail sales reached 951,000 units, with the domestic retail penetration rate hitting 65.1% - a historic high.
This represents an 11.6 percentage point increase compared to the same period last year, and marks the fourth consecutive month that the penetration rate has remained above 60%.
Conventional fuel passenger vehicle retail sales stood at 510,000 units, a sharp 41% year-on-year decline, while pure fuel vehicle sales dropped 44%. The data clearly shows an accelerating trend of electric vehicles replacing traditional combustion engine vehicles.
BYD Executive Vice President He Zhiqi shared on August 11 that in July, new energy vehicles accounted for 63.4% of the domestic market - a new record - with pure electric vehicles comprising 68% and self-owned brands holding 71.5% market share.
