China's new-energy vehicle (NEV) market dominance kept strengthening, with the monthly NEV share of new-car sales hitting a record 61.6% in September — the third consecutive month above 60%, People's Daily reported on October 22, citing the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
In the first three quarters, the cumulative NEV share of new-car sales rose further to 53.6%. NEV production and sales reached 12.483 million and 12.472 million units respectively, up 11% and 11.1% year on year. China's NEV industry has stabilized at the ten-million-unit scale, with its output of complete vehicles, power batteries and key materials exceeding 70% of the global total.
Exports remained the strongest engine: NEV export share has exceeded 50% for four straight months, and in the first three quarters NEV exports reached 4.006 million units, up 127.9% year on year. Products are shipped to more than 100 countries and regions, demonstrating strong resilience amid a shift from scaling to quality and compliance.
Industry observers note that as the penetration rate climbs, the competitive focus is moving from pure volume toward user value, safety, charging convenience and after-sales reliability.
