MIIT Moves to Ban L2 'Blue-Light' ADAS Indicators; China's Electric Heavy-Truck Share

On Oct 20, MIIT's Equipment Industry I Department released a draft revision of 'Installation Requirements for External Lighting and Light-Signaling Devices for Motor Vehicles and Trailers,' explicitly prohibiting vehicles without L3-and-above autonomous-driving capability from installing ADS indicator lights, with the dedicated light color set as blue-green. The move formally bans the popular L2 'small blue light' (ADS signaling lamps).

In market terms, China's September pure-electric heavy-truck sales exceeded 33,000 units, a share just above 50% of the segment — more than double March's level and the first time the milestone has been crossed since December 2025, signaling accelerating electrification of transport.

CATL simultaneously launched its Tianxing II 'electric-electric range-extender' heavy-truck ecosystem solution built on a battery-swap architecture, decoupling the underbody swap system into two independently running, complementary battery systems. The solution went into production at launch with 13,000 units signed in the first batch.
