October's NEV sales ranking lays bare the market's polarization. Data from the Passenger Car Association's first-11-days retail/wholesale figures and the 41st weekly order board show that in the first half of October, for every 10 new cars sold nationwide more than six were NEVs — up from "more than five in 10" in the first three quarters.
From October 1 to 11, national NEV passenger-vehicle retail was 281,000 units, down only 13% year on year and beating the overall market (-24%) by 11 percentage points; retail penetration was 61.2%, a record for the period. Wholesale was even stronger at 301,000 units, up 6% against the trend, with penetration of 78.1% — meaning for every four cars produced, more than three were NEVs.
On the weekly order board, BYD led by a wide margin at 50,200 units (-19%), its 50,000-plus base unshakable. Geely Galaxy was the only explosive grower at 35,500 units (+76%), jumping to second place on the back of the Zhanji 700 ramp-up plus the Xingyuan and E5. At the other end, MG fell 50% to 5,650 units, while Harmony Intelligent Mobility (-33%), Li Auto (-26%) and NIO (-24%) all declined more than the market.
Xiaomi held 14,000-plus weekly orders on the SU7 alone, its bottleneck being delivery rather than demand, underscoring how brand heat persists even as the market splits between winners and also-rans.
